Gayle (Gee) Little
Gayle Little was a determined, confident, caring, funny, respected and professional female truck driver. She showed a lot of pride in any truck she drove whether it was big or small.
Gayle was the daughter of Stephen and Sandra Little and sister to Kenny 'Chicken', Kaylene, Paul and Stephanie. She grew up with motor bikes, front end loaders and trucks so driving in the industry was a natural career path.
When Gayle obtained her truck licence at around 19 she worked with her parents and brothers in the family owned and operated business of Steve Little Sand and Gravel Supplies in Finley New South Wales. From there Gayle drove trucks ranging from a small Dyna to UD's, Freightliners, Macks and Kenworths. These were set up in many combinations of trailers; ridged tippers, super dogs, road trains and B-Doubles with many varied loads ranging from sand and gravel, grain, rice, fuel, swinging meat and general all round freight.
While with her fiancée© Robert 'Robbie' Dixon, Gayle held the job of driving a small Dyna she called her 'Tonka Truck' on town deliveries for Gattuso Transport in Shepparton Victoria and often did trips with Robbie driving B-Doubles and Road Trains. Robbie and Gayle also worked as a two up team going as far away as Emerald in Queensland. Sadly, Robbie passed away on the November 7, 2013. He was inducted into the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in 2015 by Gayle and sits beside his dad who was also inducted.
Gayle was not just a driver but also a support to other females wanting to get into the industry and later she played an integral role in setting up a support network for those who had become widows to the industry.
Gayle's final position held was to be driving a road train across to Perth as part of a successful two up team with Shannon Wallace 'Shambles' but sadly they were taken in a truck accident while on their maiden trip.
Gayle Little is now resting in peace with her love Robbie and will be forever missed by family and friends alike in the transport industry.
