Geoff Mountjoy

Geoffrey T. Mountjoy has been involved in road transport all his life.  He was born in Caulfield, Victoria in 1929 and began his working career as a Chartered Accountant and then as assistant accountant at Preston Motors.  In 1950 he became assistant manager and accountant as U.S. Motors in Belgrave.
Geoff eventually bought this business and built it into a thriving operation before he sold it in 1984.By 1954 he had been elected to the council of the Bus Proprietors Association of Victoria.  He later became president and then ultimately a life-member in honor of his contribution.  Geoff's commitment led him to taking a similar path in becoming chairman of the Australian Road Federation's passenger division. In 1969 Geoffrey Mountjoy was invited to serve on the Commonwealth Transport Industry Advisory Council finishing there as deputy chairman.  During this time Geoffrey was doing consultancy work which brought him to Queensland where he eventually settled.  Greyhound, Surfside, 'Elsons', Martyr's Bus Lines were a few of the companies he directed or bought and amalgamated.  In 1976 he bought Hornibrook Bus Lines and built up the business operating north of Brisbane.In conjunction with Grendas in Victoria, Stateline and Greyhound Brisbane, he set up Volgren, Qld, building buses and coaches.  In the 1990s Geoffrey initiated the process that led to the Brisbane City Council contracting out certain bus services to Hornibrook Bus Lines.  These contracts, at time of printing, are all still in operation today.  Geoff helped establish Australian Transit Enterprises in 1995.  This company gained substantial contracts both in Adelaide and Perth operating large components of the urban bus system for the Government.He has been happily married to his Patricia-Anne Mountjoy since 1954 and has five children and nine grandchildren.
