Russell Mullen

Russell Lenard Mullen was born in 1958 and passed away on 24th January 2016. He was a true gentleman and loved his trucks. Russell started driving in his 20s, working for a number of companies driving a Mercedes and then a Mack doing long haul.

Russell then moved to Dubbo where he successfully applied for a job as a Coach Captain driving to Broken Hill a few times where he met his new wife, Linda. Russell remained in Broken Hill taking up truck driving again, he just loved going up and down the highway.

Russell then got a job with Harris Refrigeration Transport SA running through to Queensland. He then got his last job with Basin Sands Logistics of Broken Hill where he was home every night. He just loved driving the big side tippers with 64 wheels. The prime mover was a Mack pulling a B-triple trailer. His boss was Steve Radford.

Russell worked there until 2013 until ill health forced him to retire. He tried hard to stay on but the illness was too great and he drove his last run on the highway to heaven in 2016.

Russell was a beautiful soul who everyone loved. In his 25 years in Broken Hill he got to meet a lot of people, joining clubs and watching car and truck racing. Russell's trucks were kept in top condition because he was forever cleaning and spraying Glen 20 to make it fresh for the next driver. He was a proud truck driver and looked forward to his next trip.

Russell was everyone's mate and if you needed help or to swap a drive for the day he would say it's ok, I'll do your run for you.
