Ray McEwan
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2006.
Ray was born on the 20th February, 1939 to John and Josephine McEwan in Bennet Street Kensington, Victoria but, as he grew up he also lived in Glenroy, Victoria and Griffith, NSW. He was on owner-driver for Hall Van Lines in Broadmeadows where he operated a Diamond T P500 primer-mover and another Diamond T diesel.
Ray was made a manager of Halls Van Lines which was then a division of FH Stephens Transport. FH was in turn bought by Mayne Nickless. Ray was manager of its many divisions over the next 30 years. Ray was the manager of the Mayne Nickless BHP contract until the time Maynes was bought by Linfox and until his retirement in 2004.
He is acknowledged by his peers as a very good transport manager and a very good 'people' boss. Ray is well-loved and respected by many, including company drivers, office staff, owner-drivers and their families. Ray would often cook a roast for the office staff and put a BBQ on for the drivers and warehouse staff.
Ray is a past president of the Sunshine RSL and he just received a Medal of Honour to celebrate 50 years of National Service. Ray is married to Sue and now that he is retired, they live in Deniliquin, NSW.
