Henry Mayberry

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2006.
Henry Mayberry of Dapto has been involved in the trucking industry for over 40 years starting as a driver in 1944.
He continued to work for various employers until 1955 when he purchased his first truck, a Diamond T, which he used to cart sand and other fill into A.I. & S. Port Kembla, to where the Sinter Plant, No. 2 Open Hearth and tin plate mill are situated today.  Henry then went on to form his own company and operated a fleet of heavy duty trucks. After a period of time on several jobs with different makes of trucks he commenced hauling coal from Appin Colliery to A. I. & S. Port Kembla with a bogie drive Albion Reiver rigid tipper carting 13 tons.  LOD Co-op Haulage and Transport Ltd had the contract which went for over 25 years.Henry had five aluminium semi-trailer tippers when the contract finished.  He was the longest serving contractor on this job.  He had other trucks hauling grain, fertilizer and blue metal.  He was director of LOD for many years.  The trucks were sold by 1989.  Henry went into a partnership with other family members.  They build and still operate self-storage units.  Henry spends a lot of time restoring his trucks and going to as many trucks shows as possible all over the country.  His last restoration is a KB3 International which was always a favourite marque of his.
