Doug & Pam McMillan

Doug and Pam McMillan have had a close association with the transport industry for most of their lives, with both their fathers having been drivers until their retirement. Doug did his apprenticeship on trucks and farm machinery at Riverina Implements in Albury, NSW before gaining his heavy vehicle licence.
In 1974 after being married for seven years, Doug and Pam purchased their first truck, and over the next eight years worked in a variety of areas ranging from grain and gravel to general interstate work. After a brief stint living in Tumut, NSW and running a tipper for the DMR on the Hume and surrounding areas, Doug went back to the highway full-time in 1982. The business grew to be a small fleet with Pam working full-time in the office by 1988.They became interested, and involved, in industry associations in 1986 and Doug worked his way onto various boards such as the RTF (now ATA) as the Small Fleet Director, Natroad, becoming president for several years and he is also a trustee for the Transport Industry Superannuation Fund. Pam joined the board of Transport Women Australia Ltd in January 2000 becoming chairperson from 2004 to 2008.Pam and Doug ran Road Transport Awareness Week in Albury/Wodonga for many years and helped to form the Murray District Consultative Committee. They were members of the Albury Road Safety Group and transport members of the Advisory Group for Small Business at Wodonga Tafe. Both are on the Australian Truck Drivers Memorial committee, and Doug is the founding principal of National Trucking Alliance. He is a quality auditor and industry trainer. Both have won National awards. Doug was awarded Outstanding Contribution to the Trucking Industry in 1996. Pam was awarded National Road Transport Woman of the Year in 1999. In 2004 they built their new depot in Albury where they continue to run their small fleet.Their passion for the industry and empathy for smaller operations is what keeps them involved in the various organizations.
