Neil Mansell
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.
Leading Toowoomba based transport company NMT has travelled millions of kilometres and hauled thousand of tons of cargo and equipment over the half a century since the young Neil Mansell began with one truck, a 1956 Ford F600.
Today, with a staff of over 450 NMT has grown to become one of the most respected transport companies servicing the oil, gas and pipeline industries and allied services in Australia. Neil has also moved many an oil rig overseas in very harsh unpredictable conditions.
Neil and his wife Fay have two daughters and a son and seven grandchildren. NMT is still a privately owned family company. Neil Mansell is managing director of the Mansell Group and his son, Robert acts as co-managing director. In 1979, NMT expanded into general freight with daily services to St George. Neil quickly followed with services to Bolton, Cunnamulla and Mungindi. His next successful venture was concrete plants and quarries in Queensland and he is still expanding to this day.
The success of the NMT Group lies with the large number of contracts it has been awarded to move rigs and pipe-lines throughout Australia and the ability to haul large loads over long distances of difficult terrain. He created history by moving a rig over the longest distance in Australia, 4650 kilometres. Mansells break a lot of records.
During the mid eighties and because of the cyclical nature of oil exploration, Neil diversified into other fields. In 1987 Bromac Panel and Paint; and Transport Welding and Engineering were established in Toowoomba to service the transport industry. As the new century unfolds, Neil Mansell is very hands on and continues to earn the respect of the Australian transport industry.
Neil's philosophy of being a people orientated business, able to specialise successfully as the business grows, has paid off.
