Charlie Refalo
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.
Charlie Refalo was born in Malta and migrated to Australia when he was nine years old. After trying out many different careers Charlie, in a joint venture with his eldest son, Joe, put into motion a plan to fulfil his middle son ,Jeffrey's dream of owning a fleet of Mack trucks. Jeffery was tragically killed when he was twelve years old.
Starting out with a Commer and G88 Volvo truck, working seven days a week and running on a bank overdraft, Charlie and Joe built themselves up a respectable business. In 1988 both Charlie's youngest sons, Laurie and Luke, joined the company and in honour of Jeffery JEFFSANN PLANT HIRE was formed.
During Charlie's time at the helm of JEFFSAN he witnessed many changes within the transport industry including safer workplace and better driver conditions. Charlie will be remembered for his philosophy of 'doing a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. If Charlie wasn't prepared to do a particular job, then he most certainly would never ask or expect any of his employees to do it.
The boys recall one of the funniest moments of their dad's trucking career when Charlie was driving his truck along Cowpasture Road and the steering arm fell off. Luckily Charlie was a calm type of bloke locking up the brakes and narrowly missing a big tree.
Today JEFFSANN is a successful truck and earthmoving company with a large fleet of trucks and earthmoving equipment, with 27 employees and many subbies. It is a true testament to Charlie's commitment of owning and operating a successful transport business.
Sadly Charlie lost a very courageous battle with cancer in August last year but his legacy will continue to live on in JEFFSANN.
