Michael Reeves

MICHAEL JOHN REEVES was born on 1958 in Warragul Victoria to Neville and Anne Reeves. Michael as he is affectionatey known, joined his father Neville at the Concrete Plant at Charlton, Victoria as soon as he turned 18, which was during his Year 12 at Wedderburn College. He went straight into the driver's seat of a concrete truck, after having a 4.30 am start to get loads batched in time to deliver to jobs for a 7.00 am start. He knew trucks were his future and never lost his passion for driving. From concrete trucks the family branched into cartage of quarry products for what is now known as Boral Bluestone Quarries Charlton, plus private cartage.

Gravel and sand pits where also purchased which offered both supply and delivery, which kept Mike pretty busy. Mike owned and drove several different brands of trucks, Leyland, Mercedes Benz, Peterbilt, Atkinson, S Line, Louisville, Mack and then a 1994 new Kenworth with a T650 fitted. He was hooked and has stuck with the brand since. Michaels two sons joined him in the business, Nathan in 2000 and Brendan in 2006 and they now help run a fleet of eight Kenworth trucks including T650, T401, T658 and T409. The trucks are also used to float machinery around. Helen, Mike's partner, Cass, Brendan's wife and Elliot, Nathan's son are doing a school-based apprenticeship and are all involved in the business with Mike's mum, Anne semi-retiring.

Mike has an excellent driving record. He is very particular with truck maintenance and every Saturday all trucks used during the week are washed inside and out, greased, serviced if due with tyres and lights checked. Mike's calm demeanor, both with customers and his drivers, has helped to get through any problem that has arisen. He is very respected by his drivers and liked by all. He will not tolerate any nonsense though, and doesn't expect his drivers to do anything he wouldn't do himself. He is alert to safety issues at all times and has truck speeds set at 95 kilometers per hour.
