Robert Stocks

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2013.

Robert (Bob) Stocks yearned to be a truck driver from a very young age. He and his older brother Bill would sit under a shady tree on the side of the road in Ararat, Victoria watching the big rigs roll by. They particularly liked the Old Commer Knockers and Bob remembers the day when Bill said to him, One day we will drive one of them mate.  Little did they know they would spend the rest of his lives as a truckies.

When Bob was just 18 years old Bill got him his first job loading trucks for Mayne Nickless. From there he graduated onto forklift driving and loading trucks for long hours day and night at Brambles for the next five years. Over the next few years Bob went on to work for many companies including Sartoris Transport and Fleet Express

By then he had developed a real passion for trucks so Bobby went onto driving interstate for Richardson Transport and later Singleton Transport, running from Adelaide to Sydney market and onto Melbourne in a 3070 ACCO back and forth.

Bob worked also for Strates Haulage driving Melbourne to Perth express.and later did a stint on roadtrains.

After a bit of a break following an accident, Bob carted livestock for 16 years with Scott's, Jim Young and Peach Transport. When it was time for a change he switched to tankers driving with Gericke Bulk Handling Transport in Naracoorte, his hometown of many years. He has now been with Gericke Transport for the past fifteen years and he hopes to be there for many more.
Bobby describes driving trucks as 'the good life',  and recalls making a lot of good mates and losing a lot of good mates.
