Bruno Sartori
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2013.
In his early teens Bruno Sartori began his working life by cutting his teeth lumping massive logs out of remote bushland forests and mountain trails in the logging industry in the 1940s. This was a time when the rules were somewhat different from today's standards and it was hard and back breaking work even for the fittest of men and the toughest of trucks.
Never-the-less Bruno got the bug and purchased his own truck. After logging he dabbled in car carrying a while before moving into interstate transport where he was to make his name.
In the 1950s Bruno operated a small transport operation from his back yard in Brunswick where he and his wife Cissy had begun to raise a family. Bruno was running between Melbourne and Brisbane in those early days along dirt roads and occasionally through paddocks. He began his journey carting Nanda Macaroni out of Brisbane which formed the link and growth to Sartori's Transport.
Several stages of growth took Bruno to depots in Essendon, Kensington and finally out to Reservoir where Sartori's Transport was recognised as one of the largest road transport operators on the Melbourne to Brisbane corridor.
During the growth years through the seventies and eighties Bruno did the hard yards with his team. He earned an outstanding respect, not only from his clients, but from his employees and sub contractors. Nanda, and several other well branded manufacturers, remained Sartori's Transport clients for the entire journey.
Sadly ill health, possibly due to the hard yards, encouraged Bruno to sell his beloved business in the mid eighties. Bruno forever regretted the sale as he missed, so passionately, his team and his clients.
Bruno Sartori sadly passed away in January of 2010 and left behind an impressive legacy of many fine friends and fond memories. He was well respected on the highways. His supreme efforts, from such a humble and uneducated beginning, to build Sartori's Transport to the success that it became is testament to Bruno's honesty, integrity and passion which he instilled in his family.
