Keith Strachan
Keith Strachan was born on the 1st August 1940 in Thornbury, Victoria. He is married to Christine Wiggins.
In 1958 Keith drove a 1952 Ford Thames owned by Crane Bros. in Richmond, Victoria carting general freight. He moved to Skinner's Transport carting steel to building sites and bridges in a 1954 F500. In late 1965 Keith moved to Alice Springs and drove for Ferrari Bros. doing local deliveries in a Loadstar.
During 1966 Geoff moved to Darwin and drove a crane on the Darwin wharf. In 1967 he drove for Bilato Transport in a Diamond T semi-tipper and a B Model Mack called Moon Racker. Geoff then moved to Don Williams Transport driving a F600 semi, a White Road Commander roadtrain and various Internationals carting to most Aboriginal missions in the Northern Territory. He also did Adelaide and Brisbane runs.
Keith also worked for Jim Cooper of Gulf Transport for three years carting rock from Mt Bundy to Darwin's Patrol Base. He also worked for Ace Transport driving roadtrains and was one of the first to drive a B-double and two B-doubles hooked together carting quicklime to the Ranger mine.
Keith drove for Walter Wright Transport, carting floats with wide loads. One load was a 120 ton generator for the Darwin Power House. He moved to Borroloola for two years and drove a Volvo roadtrain for Ross Robinson carting general freight and fuel from Darwin. In 1988 Geoff moved to Rockhampton and drove for Pozzalenic carting cement.
In 1998 Geoff moved top Cardwell to drive for Malley's Transport running from Tully to Melbourne and Sydney pulling refrigerated vans. After that he moved to Rollingstone driving a Sterling log truck carting from Cardwell to the Townsville Port for Geoff Pense.
In 2007 Keith and Christine moved to Childers where Keith drove for Lindsay Bros. for three years carting refrigerated vans from Childers to Brisbane. He retired aged 70. Keith has made some lifelong friends and has enjoyed a lifetime of driving trucks.
