Robert Spark

Robert Spark, commonly known to his mates as Bob, has always been fascinated by trucks. As a boy he used to wag school to cart sheep in Cressy, Victoria, where he was brought up. He loved driving trucks and it was his dream to one day own his own.

Over the years Bob has driven trucks for Reynolds Transport, Ansett Freight Express and drove tippers for K.L. McKenzie & Paddy Hall Excavations in Geelong. Later he drove a 7 series Dodge for Ken and Barrie Hall delivering newspapers to Warnnambool and Hamilton and by 1972 he started to drive a D series Ford to Adelaide a couple of times a week.

Then in 1979 Bob bought a 1968 model Atkinson with a 35ft bogey axle trailer from Ken and Barrie Hall and started sub-contracting for the likes of Alltrans, Perth Freight Lines, M & S Transport and several others, always across the Nullabor to Perth, where he became well-known for stopping to chat or extend a helping hand to others in trouble no matter who they were.

Bob, in his time, has owned an Atkinson 3070 Eagle, an 80 model Kenworth, a L.T.S Ford Louisville (ex Berkley's) and his favourite, an ex Glen Seaton Transport L.T.L.A Ford Aeromax and last but not least an S-Line 3600 tipper. Bob can still be seen on the Nullarbor driving twice a week from Perth to Mundrabilla for Bunker Freight Lines.

Bob is well-known in the industry as a good operator and a friend to all. He was well-known on the road and always willing to lend a hand where-ever and whenever it was needed. He is one of Australia's highway heros!
