Milton Turnbull

MILTON TURNBULL was born in 1954 in Mount Gambier, SA, where he was raised and still lives today. After leaving school at 17 he got work as a spare parts assistant for K&S Freighters, then Gambier West Brakes. By the time he was 18 Milton had discovered his love of the transport industry while driving a coach for his father Ken at Turnbull Charter Coaches. In 1976, Milton got work driving for KMG Haulage with father Ken and brother Garry, carting Schweppes products and particle board. In 1979, Milton was part of the 'Nationwide Truck Blockade', held up on the Hume Highway.

In 1983 he purchased his own truck (Scania 141) with his wife Liz and began trading as ML and EA Turnbull. He continued interstate runs, carting predominately particle board from Mount Gambier to NSW. Backloading through Wodonga with pet food from Uncle Ben's. He also carted general freight including; steel, vehicles, machinery, bricks, fuel, oil and paper. One of Milton's most memorable backloads was Dick Johnson's 'True Blue Number 17' car. Being a Ford fanatic for all of his driving years, this still holds fond memories for him. In 1993 Milton purchased a 142M Scania (still a Scania man). In 2000, he added another trailer to become a B Double operator.

In the 27 years of being an owner/operator, Milton did all of his own vehicle maintenance whilst continuing with his weekly interstate runs. In 2003, Milton sold his beloved Scania and turned his hand to driver training. He began working for TTC as a contractor driver trainer for car, MR, HR, HC and MC and running defensive driver and TILE courses. From 2010 to 2016 he did contract driving training at LITA and Fennell Forestry, while continuing to add to his long list of qualifications.

In 2016, Milton permanently joined the Fennell Forestry group as a driver trainer and mentor, as well as climbing back in behind the wheel, this time of a Kenworth log truck. Milton is now South Australia's most qualified and diversified truck driver trainer and assessor and is held in high regard by all in the trucking industry.
